There is perhaps no icon of the Mother of God more beautiful, and certainly none which has more mysteriously and prophetically appeared in the midst of the People of God in recent history. Its form and location revealed in dreams to a pious woman, it was sought out in a refuseheap in the basement of the Church of the Ascension in Kolomna... discovered on the day of the abdication of Tsar Nicholas in 1917.
